HTC Ends Locked Bootloader Policy

HTC has some good news for anyone World Health Organization's wanted to root their Humanoid phones: The company proclaimed New Thursday that it will no longer be locking the bootloaders on its phones. Confirmed via a post on HTC's Facebook Page, Chief operating officer Peter Zhou said that subsequently listening to customer feedback, the company would provide unlocked bootloaders on HTC devices.

"There has been overpoweringly client feedback that people neediness access to open bootloaders on HTC phones. I want you to know that we've listened. Now, I'm confirming we will no longer be lockup the bootloaders on our devices. Thanks for your passion, substantiate and patience," Peter Chou, CEO of HTC.

As its name suggests, the bootloader loads the phone's OS, and having a locked bootloader means you can't install your own operating theatre a bespoke operating system on your earpiece. Latched bootloaders, while requiring a sign certificate from HTC, don't preclude you from rooting the earpiece, but still maintain manufacturer control over handsets.

It's helpful to see that HTC listens to its customers' requests for public bootloaders badly, and that perhaps French telephone makers testament be willing to grant more control of their devices to users in the emerging. This announcement likely only applies to prox HTC devices, though we'll represent delirious to hear if HTC bequeath be retroactively providing unlocked bootloaders on new HTC phones.

Late last month, Motorola announced that information technology would introduce an unlockable bootloader for its phones later this year.
